Susan Mary Arisman
7/8/1937 – 1/6/2021
On Tuesday January 5th, 2020, Susan Mary Arisman (nee Grellinger), loving wife and mother of three children, passed away peacefully at the age of 83.
Susan was born July 8th, 1937 in Milwaukee, WI to Alvin and Ruth Grellinger. She attended Devine Savior, Marquette University, Oxford University and University of Chicago, receiving a Ph.D in English in 1976. She married Michael Arisman in1959. Devoted mother of John E. Arisman, Peter M. Arisman and his wife Kristin, and, Jolyn M. Airsman and her husband Colin Connor.
Susan built a distinguished career in education as a teacher, teacher educator, college professor and college dean. Beyond being a sharp and accomplished professional, she was a devoted and loving mother. Susan loved being a mom, reading and engagement in politics. Susan was also a devout Catholic and her faith was central to her life.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband Michael and brother Mike and survived by her brother John Grellinger, Cecile Cunningham, and Mary Koch.
Due to public health concerns, an extremely limited, private Visitation will be held at the Charles L. Stevens Funeral Home, Inc. Family invite friends to celebrate with them at a Mass of Christian burial at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 108 E. West Street, Baltimore MD 21230 on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 12:00pm. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the church will only allow 100 people in the church, seating will be restricted to every other pew. The mass will also be live streamed on the church Facebook page.

Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, 6020 Ritchie Highway, Baltimore MD 21225. Cemetery restrictions will only allow a limited number of people at the graveside any additional people will be required to remain by their car at a safe social distance for the duration of the service. After the pandemic restrictions have been lifted the family will be having a public memorial service to celebrate Susan’s life.
