Frederic J. Kreiger's Obituary
Frederic J. Kreiger, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully
in his sleep on Sunday, July 20, 2025 in Baltimore, Maryland, surrounded by family and
friends. He was 84 years old.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 6, 1941, to Clement Kreiger and Florence Kniola, Fred lived
a life defined by kindness, integrity, and quiet strength. He proudly served in the U.S. Air
Force and while stationed in Washington DC fate introduced him to the love of his life, Rita.
Together they built a warm and loving home in the DC Metro area, raising their son Ric with
a mix of discipline, laughter, and an endless supply of life lessons that were often delivered
while fixing cars, hiking in the woods, repairing the house or just talking over the dinner
table. Through it all was his schnauzer, Kieli who was always by his side.
Fred earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Maryland and
went on to have a distinguished career with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and
the Department of Justice. A proud Master Mason of Pentalpha Lodge #194, he lived his
values deeply and quietly.
His greatest joy, though, was his family. He was an MVP Pop Pop who never missed a
chance to spoil his grandchildren, Makenzie and Dylan, and share with them his colorful
stories, wisdom, and goofy sense of humor. Whether enjoying crabs at the beach or at
family gatherings, a cold Natty Boh, napping on the couch, catching reruns of CSI: Miami or
old Spaghetti westerns with Clint Eastwood, Fred always found happiness in the simple
pleasures of life and sharing them with others, including the occasional Gin & Tonic.
After the passing of his beloved Rita in 2017, Fred devoted himself fully to his son Ric,
daughter-in-law Beverly, his grandchildren and the extended family that embraced him with
love. He will be remembered for his warm heart, big hugs, Pop Pop jokes, and unwavering
support.
Fred is survived by his brother Dennis Kreiger, his son and daughter-in-law Ric and Beverly
Kreiger, and his grandchildren Makenzie and Dylan. He is now reunited with Rita, the love of
his life, who has been patiently waiting for him and whom he has dearly missed.
Fred lived a full and generous life and those who knew him will carry his memory, and his
stories, in their hearts forever.
