William Robert Lear "Billy"'s Obituary
On April 9, 2025 William Robert Lear, “Billy” passed away. Beloved son of the late Betty Joan Lear (nee Brown) and the late John Joseph Lear. Treasured brother of Patricia Ann Pendleton (nee Lear), Mary Teresa Iman (nee Lear) and the late Deborah Ann Lear. Dear brother-in-law of Harold “Duke” Iman, Jr. After the passing of their parents, Billy and his siblings were lovingly taken in by their aunt and uncle, Mary Kay Wroblewski (nee Brown) and Alexander Joseph Wroblewski, Jr. Dear brother from another mother of the late Alexander Joseph Wroblewski, III. Cherished grandson of the late Bertha and Thomas Lear, and the late Marie and Lawrence Brown, and step grandson of Catherine Brown. Also survived by many dear aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, some who’ve gone before him and many who remain to carry on his stories.
Bill adopted a “no shoes, no shirt, no problem” mindset after discovering the music of Jimmy Buffett, and faithfully attended every Buffett concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion. He fell in love with Key West and aspired to live on island time after he retired.
In retirement, Bill enjoyed good times and great conversations with friends and fellow longshoremen at JR’s and Muir’s Tavern. He loved to cook, dubbing himself “Chef Billardee” known for putting together a good meal and a better laugh. A fun fact about Bill was he had a natural gift for drawing. He also had a famously dry wit and a unique perspective on the world, proudly being a flat earther.
Bill will be remembered for his humor, his loyalty, and the laid-back way he approached life. He was unapologetically himself, and that’s exactly how he’d want to be remembered. Bill bid everyone goodnight at Muirs and on facebook by his signature line “God bless us everyone, even Tiny Tim”.
