Miss this beautiful old church and our life-changing memories!
I prayer St Mary Star of the Sea 23 years . Thunderstorms broke Cross. Father Josh new Cross October 2020 . 153 years age end. Sad.
I am pretty new to CCSB and St. Mary’s as both a Parish and a church building. Still I can already feel a sense of connection to both and especially the people.
When I look at the pews in St. Mary’s church, I am struck by how simple and rugged they are - much like the Parish’s people. They do what they need to do well, simply and humbly.
Similarly, the windows are no short of stunningly beautiful. They seem to catch the light differently each time. But still always so strikingly BEAUTIFUL! Again, whether one is talking about the windows or the people, every interaction catches a different beautiful glimmer.
And the light, ah the light. It is bright, bold and seen by oh so very many. It shined for years and shines on still. And always will in some way. St. Mary’s has such a rich history as a Parish and as a building. But the most awesome, simple, humble, beautiful, and shining outward thing about this building St. Mary’s are her people! May the bright beacon of the people who have worshiped at St. Mary’s over the decades, shine even more brightly and broadly than her star ever did!!
St. Mary Star of the Sea - Pray for us!!

I was baptized, married and our daughter was baptized there. So many wonderful memories.
At the age of thirteen and as an eighth grader of Catholic Community School in May of 1976, my classmates and I received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop (now Cardinal) Frank Stafford at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church.
As a high school student, I was also active in the church’s parishioner-based theater program during the late 1970s.
I have many good memories from those times!
It has been sad to see the gradual diminishment of the parish in all those years since then.
My great aunt was a Sister of St. Joseph,Chestnut Hill,Pa.
When she would visit she and her companion would sometimes stay at St.Mary's. My heart is breaking for the loss of the beautiful churches that will be closing
My dad was the first Deacon at Saint Mary's Deacon Alexander Szuchnicki. We went to school there made our sacraments there. What a great loss to the community.
I was baptized there 74 years ago. Sad to see it close.
My Great Great Grandparents were married at St. Mary Star of the Sea before the church was even built. My Great Grandmother was baptized there in 1869. I was baptized there in 1953, my brother in 1957. All of our sacraments were received there while we attended St. Mary Star of the Sea School, where I was required to attend Mass every day except Saturday until I graduated in 1967. Our lives revolved around that church with May Processions through the streets, Holy Week ceremonies with the statues draped in purple, Holy Hour Adoration, and more. Some of my fondest memories of people and the church happened there. I hate to see it go.
