Matthew Erik Sgambato's Obituary
Matthew Erik Sgambato, age 35, passed away far too soon on Tuesday, December 24th, surrounded by his family. “Matt” was born on August 14, 1984 in Cheshire, CT. He was a resident of the Federal Hill neighborhood in Baltimore MD for 10 years, before moving recently to Mount Airy, MD.
He is survived by his wife, Christina (Brissette) Sgambato and their 11 month old son, Bryson Sgambato, his father and mother, Ralph and Heli Sgambato, of Cheshire CT., his brother and sister-in-law, Kristopher and Judi Sgambato, and their two children Josephine and Winston Sgambato of Dayton MD, his sister and her fiance, Lia Sgambato and Tim Cyr of Newington, Connecticut, his mother-in-law and father-in law James and Lynne Brissette of Sturbridge MA, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lindsay and Timothy Crawford of Kittery, ME, aunts, uncles, cousins and an incredible group of friends, near and far, of whom he considered family.
Matthew graduated from Cheshire High School in 2002 and the University of Connecticut in 2006. After college, Matt pursued a career as a computer software engineer, most recently working as a Principal Engineer at Medtronic in Annapolis, MD. Matt enjoyed travelling with friends and family, hanging out with his buddies on his rooftop deck or favorite local establishments, watching UConn Basketball, playing fetch with his dog Charlie, pool time with his wife and son, and listening to Guns and Roses on repeat. His genuine love of life, quick wit, “Matt facts,” smooth dance moves, and, above all, incredibly kind heart will be dearly missed by all who know and love him.
Family will receive friends at the Charles L Stevens Funeral Home, 1501 East Fort Avenue, Locust Point, MD 21230 on Monday, December 30th from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 5:00pm. Following the service, friends are invited to a celebration of Matt’s life at one of his favorite Federal Hill bars, Brewer’s Cask, 1236 Light Street, Federal Hill MD 21230. The family will be there to greet relatives and friends. An entombment service will be held at All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Avenue, North Haven, Connecticut, 06473 on Friday, January 3rd at 11:00am. Following the brief memorial and entombment of Matt at All Saints Cemetery, the family will be hosting a Celebration of Matt's life at Stoney Creek Brewery 5 Indian Neck Avenue, Branford, CT from 1230-330 PM. The family asks for donations in Matt’s name, in lieu of flowers, to either the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (https://cholangiocarcinoma.org/donate/) or the Ulman Foundation (https://ulmanfoundation.org/donate), as research and progress toward a cure would mean much more to Matthew.
