Mary "Terry" Schroeder's Obituary
Mary "Terry" Schroeder passed away on January 2, 2026. She was the loving wife of the late George Schroeder; cherished mother of son Nicholas Schroeder and daughter-in-law Emily, Katie Walsh and son-in-law Matt; caring grandmother of Samantha, Charles, Felix, and Phoebe; dear sister of George "Tommy" Wengert and sister-in-law Joann, and treasured aunt of Chris and Josh Wengert. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Harriet Wengert, and her father-in-law, Louis Schroeder. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Eloise Schroeder, as well as many other loving cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Terry was a tried-and-true South Baltimorean and proud member of the Belles of Good Council. Born on West Fort Avenue, she eventually settled on East Fort Avenue, always preferring the neighborhood she loved. She graduated from Seton High School in 1971 and began her career at the Social Security Administration, retiring after 38 years of service.
She and George shared 45 years of marriage together, and Terry never missed a chance to watch him perform over the years. She also found great joy in reading, playing bingo, seeing shows, taking bus trips, and various other outings with friends, family, and the Belles.
Terry was quietly and deeply charitable - not for recognition, but because it was simply who she was. A longtime parishioner of Holy Cross Church, her desire to be more Christ-like always kept her in a giving mindset. Whether she was delivering meals for Meals on Wheels, giving a neighbor a ride to the market, cooking for a church event, or simply bringing something to share at a party, she showed up for people in ways large and small.
Above all, Terry was strong. She survived both breast and lung cancer, and even while recovering, she made sure her family was cared for before herself. Illness never kept her from living fully; she continued her outings with the Belles and never stopped making memories with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a woman of remarkable strength and generosity, helping others right up to the end.
