Flora Dorothy Thomas' Obituary
Flora Dortothy Thomas is survived by a daughter, Julie Joann Thomas; two grandchildren, Kelly Lynn Mundroff and Brandon Lee Scott Haight; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua Brendan Peddicord, Tyler Robert Peddicord, Lucy Katherine Haight and Olive Josephine Haight.
Flora Thomas was our grandmother, but we were lucky enough for her to transcend into something else, because to most people that knew her, Flora Thomas was Memaw.
A Memaw is a special title, bestowed upon a very special kind of Grandmother. She raises children that are not her own, and helps to guide generation after generation of children that come after that. A Memaw accepts all who cross the threshold of her home, regardless of who they are, how they dress, what their life's philosophy or any other distinguishing characteristics they may possess, in a word, Memaw's home is a sanctuary.
Flora Thomas took interest in every person that her child, grandchildren or great-grandchildren ever brought before her, and considered those people part of her. They were important to us, so they were important to her.
Her family are the luckiest people because they got a generous, accepting, patient, and inadvertently hilarious grandmother. The people around her family were equally lucky, because even if they didn't have Flora Thomas as a grandmother, they still got to have her as a Memaw, and that was a special gift for anyone to have in their life.
She was such a pivotal person in all of our lives and she will be so sorely missed, we only find comfort now in knowing that she is at rest, and has hopefully found her husband of nearly 60 years, Robert Chauncey Thomas, who she has missed so dearly for over 20 years.
We love you Memaw, we will never forget the kindness and care you had for us, and the way you influenced our lives and shaped them into what they are to this day.
