Dorothy "Dot" Marguerite Rew's Obituary
On April 17, 2021, Dorothy Marguerite Rew (nee Eichelberger) of Catonsville, MD passed from this life at University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center. “Dot” was born in Baltimore in
February 1939, the sixth of seven children and only daughter of Earl Carl and Dorothy May (nee Griffiths) Eichelberger. Married for twenty-four years, Dot was an amazing mother to Robert “Kevin” Rew and Terry Lynn Rew, as well as beloved mother-in-law to their husbands, Kirk Zimmerman and Ken Davis. She loved watching her step grandchildren Eric and Nick Davis grow and thrive. Dot remained close to and loved her brothers, the late Roger, Ellwood “Buddy”, the late Earl, Harry, Albert, and the late Ralph. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children, all of whom were important in her life.
Dot was known for her kindness and boisterous laugh, which would fill a room. A strong sense of humor is a family trait she shared with her brothers and passed on to her children. She was a
woman without pretense who laughed heartily at jokes made at her expense. Dot took pleasure in the simple things in life, particularly in playful interactions with children.
Dot retired after 38 years of service to the State of Maryland Department of Personnel, where she forged strong friendships and her co-workers knew her to be the person to turn to get things done with care and precision.
In Dot’s memory, her family suggests that you laugh with your loved ones and treat others with respect and kindness. This would be the most fitting tribute to our wonderful mom/sister/aunt.
Dot, you are loved and missed.
