Samuel Rosenberg Schnydman

August 21, 1940 - May 8, 2022

Samuel “Sam” Rosenberg Schnydman passed away on May 8, 2022, at the age of 81, in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. Sam loved sports, playing soccer and lacrosse at Univ of Pennsylvania and graduated Phi Betta Kappa, and eagerly awaited each year the start of Baltimore’s professional baseball and football seasons. He heroically battled serious medical issues over the last few years but remained a dedicated husband, father, and friend to many throughout his illness. Sam was married to the love of his life, Theresa “Thea,” for 42 years. Through Thea’s cooking, he discovered a love of good food. With a sense of adventure, they traveled the world together, by land, sea, and air, where Sam shared his infectious warmth and sense of humor with everyone he met, even if he didn’t speak the language. He explored the world outside Baltimore, but he was always most connected to the city and his circle of friends. He began as an agent in the Milton Young Agency of Connecticut Mutual 56 years ago. He earned his ChFc and CLU designations in addition to Special Needs Planner certification. He went on to teach CLU classes and mentored many. As the industry changed, Sam changed his practice. He was an early adopter of technology, and he quickly ditched the books to learn illustration software and CRM systems. Decades ago he also encouraged his colleagues to include wealth management in their insurance practices. He reminded younger agents that they should look to their fellow agents as their best prospects and welcome collaborations. What started out as a question about a spreadsheet allocation led to his 25-year collaboration with Charles OConnell. He told his family many times “ the best decision in his business was his partnership with Charlie.” Sam loved to tell people he was a commissioned salesman, and he lived “ the joy and oye” of the business. Sam was dedicated to his church and, as importantly, his pursuit of spirituality and faith. That spirit manifested itself in so many untold gestures of kindness to those in need. Sam is survived by his wife Thea, daughter Jennifer and her son Daniel, his sister Hobie, his stepchildren, Greg and Nicki (spouse Theresa ), his grand-dogs Moose and Kasey, his extended family, and his large chosen family of lifelong friends. Sam will be honored in a celebration of life on Saturday, May 21 at 10:30 am EST at St. Ignatius Church in Baltimore. Family visitation will begin at 9:30am at St. Ignatius. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Loyola School www.loyolaearly.org or call 443-563-2589 (ext 2) or email [email protected]
