Richard "Dick" Walter Quinn

December 30, 1936 - April 2, 2022

Richard “Dick” Quinn passed away in the early hours of April 2, 2022, in Baltimore, Maryland after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Dick was 85 years old. He was born in December of 1936 with twin brother Paul F. Quinn to Quentin and Catherine Quinn, and spent his youth in Waterbury, Connecticut. Dick and Patricia L. Quinn, his wife of 62 years, lived in Bloomfield, Connecticut for over twenty years while raising their three children Heather, Jeff and Kerry. With the kids grown and gone, Pat and Dick moved to Newport and eventually settled in Middletown, Rhode Island enjoying sailing and the gorgeous New England coastal lifestyle until about 2017 when they decided to move to Baltimore, Maryland to be closer to family. Pat resides today at Caritas House Assisted Living facility in Baltimore. Mail can be received at 1200 Steuart St, Suite #422, Baltimore, MD 21230. Dick leaves behind a loving and extended family. His wife Pat, daughter Heather Muckenhirn and her husband Carl, sons Jeff Quinn and his wife Sabra, Kerry Quinn and his wife Lisa. He has eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his youngest brother Bruce Quinn of Johnson City, Tennessee. Dick Quinn knew from an early age that he wanted to become an architect but it was more than just a career path to him; it was his passion. A graduate of Notre Dame University, Dick earned his degree in architecture in 1961. After working for two prestigious Connecticut based architectural firms in his early career, he started his own firm in the early 1970’s. Throughout his career he served on the Connecticut Architectural Licensing Board before he was elected as New England Conference (Region 1) secretary and director in the late-1980s. From there, Dick served as National Council of Architecture Registration Boards (NCARB) secretary, second vice president, and first vice president/president-elect before being elected the organization’s president in 1996. During his service with NCARB, he was chair of the Examination Committee, where he helped prepare the organization to transition from a paper-and-pencil exam to one that was computer based. Dick has been involved in a wide range of design work during his career including university and college, healthcare, corrections, housing and church facility projects. A proud graduate of Notre Dame, Dick was probably most excited to share (with anyone who would listen) his stories about his involvement with the design of the book store and visitor center to his alma mater, the University of Notre Dame. Dick served as president of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Connecticut chapter in 1984. At the peak of his career, for his exceptional contributions to the profession and the public, he was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows in 1995 and earned the NCARB President’s medal in 1997. Dick has made a lasting impression on so many friends and family throughout his life. He is deeply loved by all of us and will be sorely missed. Final services will be held on Friday, April 8th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Baltimore, followed by internment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery 6020 Ritchie Hwy, Baltimore, MD 21225. Friends and family are invited to participate in a small reception after services at Silo Point Sky Lounge, 1200 Steuart St, Baltimore, MD 21230. The family requests that that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Dick’s memory to Caritas House Assisted Living of Baltimore, Maryland. Funeral arrangements are provided by Charles L. Stevens Funeral Home. (410) 752-7739.
