Frank W. Gibson, Jr

Dr. Frank Wilson Gibson, Jr. of Towson, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends, on December 27, 2018. He was 72 years old. A public gathering will take place Friday, January 11, 2019, 7:00pm – 9:00pm at the Charles L Stevens Funeral Home, Inc. 1501 E. Fort Avenue, Locust Point MD 21230. A memorial mass will be held, Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 1 PM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church,1532 E. Fort Avenue, Locust Point, MD 21230. The family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the VA/MD Collie Rescue, Inc at www.savecollies.org or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org . Frank was born on November 30, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from Calvert Hall College High School in 1964. He then received a B.S. from Towson State College in 1968, followed by a Master’s Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, and ultimately a Ph.D. in Psychology from UNC-Greensboro. Upon completing his schooling, Dr. Gibson moved to Salisbury, MD, where he would become Superintendent at DHPH Holly Center. After eighteen years in Salisbury, he had a brief stint at Temple University in Philadelphia. He then returned to the Baltimore area for good in 1995, taking over a private Psychology practice (Bay Counseling in Belair and Dundalk Counseling in Dundalk). Frank is preceded in death by his parents Frank W. Gibson, Sr. and Marie Beck Gibson, and more recently his best friend and collie companion Penelope. He is survived by two sons, Stefan (with his wife Sara Meehan and son Ian M. Gibson) and Eric (with his wife Laurie McGuckin and daughters Lilian R. Gibson and Grace M. Gibson); friend, former wife, and mother of his children Nora A. Gibson; devoted friend and former wife Nancy R. Gibson; step-daughter Mary Case Shelton; his adopted “family” at his Dundalk and Belair offices; and a number of cousins in both the Baltimore and the Detroit, MI areas. Many of Frank’s interests were rooted in him having been born and bred in Baltimore. He was an avid Colts fan and Orioles fan; enjoyed being out on the water (boating, crabbing, waterskiing); liked to cook (made a really good crabcake); and watched the movie “Diner” more times than you could count. While Frank did have a few hobbies, he seemed to get the most fulfillment out of his work as a Psychologist and seeing patients. With his Collie Penny by his side (or Maggie or Lad before her), Frank truly enjoyed engaging with staff and clients at his offices; he seemed happiest when his efforts were of help to other people.
