One of the greatest gifts that divine providence has ever bestowed upon me was moving next-door to the Klebe Family. Mr. Frank was so very "hands on active" in the lives of his children. And he pulled you into that orb. For so very many years I had up close and personal life lessons from someone who cared very deeply that you got these lessons down pat.
The Vehicle he used to convey these lessons: Sports! Any Sport! From boxing and basketball… to Volleyball and Baseball; you played and he got you to the field.
Mr. Frank made sure you were active, aware and you knew how the experience parleyed into life experiences. You gave 100%. If you lost you got better, NOT mad! You respected your opponent, the referees and fans of the other team. If you cried, you cared.
For two years or so he coached my basketball team. I got the whistle for a foul once, and I started to argue with the ref. He yanked me off the court (you could, actually, put your hands on someone else’s child back then) and said to me: “The next time … Or ANY time the ref charges you with a foul; you put your hand in the air so the officials can identify you. You take responsibility and move on! If the ref was wrong I’ll argue with him. Not you… you are gonna make mistakes, Keith… In life and in every game you ever play. Get past them quickly if you want to win.” It was the greatest piece of advice I have ever received.
So, yes. I will carry him with me every day.
